The Fool: meaning, reversed, love & career
The Fool means a beginning taken on faith rather than on evidence. Numbered zero, it sits before experience: the decision made without a plan, and the willingness to look foolish in order to start. Upright it is a leap worth taking; reversed it is recklessness, or a leap endlessly postponed.
Upright
You do not have enough information and you are going anyway. That is not naivety here — it is the only way this particular thing can begin.
Reversed
Either you are leaping without looking at what it costs others, or you have been standing at the edge so long that the standing has become the problem.
In love
New feeling, unguarded. For couples, recovering play; for singles, someone who does not fit the pattern you were shopping for.
In work & money
A change of direction, a first venture, or work you are not yet qualified for and should take anyway. Learn in public.

Read my spreadCommon questions about The Fool
- Is the Fool a bad card?
- No. It carries risk rather than misfortune. The Fool warns about unpreparedness, not about outcome.
- Why is the Fool numbered zero?
- Zero places it before the sequence rather than within it — the state prior to experience, which is why it can also be read as standing outside the whole journey.
- Is the Fool a yes or no?
- Yes, conditionally: yes if you are willing to begin without certainty.
